Elizabeth A. Ryan, O.D.

Eye and vision specialists are independent primary health care providers who specialize in the examination, diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases and disorders of the visual system, the eye and associated structures. They can prescribe medications and fit and dispense glasses or contact lenses. As ocular specialists, our providers treat urgent and ongoing visual healthcare for your entire family.

Dr. Ryan

Elizabeth A. Ryan, O.D.

A native of Northampton, Massachusetts, Dr. Elizabeth Ryan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in biochemistry from Smith College in Northampton and went on to graduate with an optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry in Boston in 1988. The following eight years were spent providing comprehensive optometric care for the patient population of a large medical practice in western Massachusetts. In 1996, Dr. Ryan directed her expertise toward a geriatric population, additionally serving as the Director of Optometry for that long-term care facility. Presently, she is associated with the NorthEast Laser Center in West Springfield, Massachusetts serving as the Executive Director of Clinical Care. Additionally, Dr. Ryan is a member of the teaching faculty in the Physician's Assistants program at Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts.

As a very active member of the medical community, Dr. Ryan is involved in administrative and leadership positions currently serving on the State Executive Board for the Massachusetts Society of Optometrists and as the Education Chair for the Western District Massachusetts Society of Optometrists. She also maintains membership in the American Optometric Association (AOA), and the Optometric Refractive Surgery Society. Interested in advancing her field of medicine, Dr. Ryan conducts training seminars for optometrists and volunteers her medical expertise as a resource for several local access cable channel programs.

Dr. Ryan is certified as a LADARVISION Operator and also has received certification in Co-management of Refractive Surgery Patients from the Yale/New Haven Laser Eye Center. She is licensed to practice in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

John M. Frangie, M.D.

Graduating with highest distinction in organismal biology from the University of Kansas in Kansas City, KS, Dr. John Frangie went on to earn a medical degree from that university's school of medicine in 1988 where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha. He served an internal medicine internship at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts, a Tufts University School of Medicine affiliate, an ophthalmology residency at Boston University School of Medicine in Boston, and a cornea and external disease fellowship at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, New York.

Following completion of his training, Dr. Frangie returned to Boston University School of Medicine where he served as the ophthalmologist-in-chief for the Department of Ophthalmology and as a faculty member directing the Cornea and Refractory Surgery Services. Additionally, he conducted training programs for residents and fellow surgeons. In 1998, Dr. Frangie established the Pioneer Valley Ophthalmic Consultants group, which provided LASIK surgery services throughout the state of Massachusetts. In 2001 he directed his attention to serving the needs of western Massachusetts and established the first permanent Laser Vision Correction Center in Springfield where he serves as the Medical Director.

As a very active member of the medical community, Dr. Frangie maintains membership in several professional organizations including the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists. Administratively, he has served on the Board of Directors for the Massachusetts for the Prevention of Blindness.

Dr. Frangie has served as a scientific reviewer for several professional publications and has authored numerous articles and book chapters on corneal disease and surgery. Dr. Frangie is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
